This stops bubbling the SCROLL_BEGIN, SCROLL, SCROLL_END events in text areas and other scrollable areas like chat history, settings, and the node list, which was causing the UI to feel exceptionally slow by instigating LV_STATE_SCROLLED on messages_panel and main_screen, leading to full redraws. When composing a new message, as soon as the message length exceeded the width of the input, it would slow down and miss most keystrokes. Now, it's much snappier.

I've tested this on an Elecrow M9 and Lilygo T-Deck.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Scroll input in text areas and message containers stays within those areas instead of affecting surrounding content.
    • Text areas begin scrolling without a scroll-start animation when an animation setting is provided.
    • Scroll events from other scrollable areas on the main screen no longer propagate beyond their area, keeping scrolling behavior contained and predictable.

Walkthrough

The TFT view registers local scroll-event handlers on text areas and qualifying scrollable widgets in the main-screen tree. It also registers a handler on newly created message containers. The handlers stop scroll events from bubbling, and text-area handlers set scroll-begin animation duration to zero.

Once a one-line text area overflows, every keystroke scrolls it. The
SCROLL_BEGIN/END events bubbled up to messages_panel and main_screen,
toggling LV_STATE_SCROLLED on each. The default theme styles the
scrollbar for that state, so LVGL refreshed the style of the whole
object tree and redrew the screen twice per key, starving the keyboard
poll and dropping keys.

Stop bubbling of scroll events on the 320x240 text areas and make the
cursor-follow scroll jump instead of animating.

Message containers have EVENT_BUBBLE, so scrolling the chat history
toggled LV_STATE_SCROLLED on messages_panel and main_screen too, and
LVGL refreshed the style of the whole object tree on every scroll.
Keep their scroll events local; the scroll animation stays.

Any scrollable widget with EVENT_BUBBLE has the same problem as the text
areas and chat history: e.g. the home panel's status list scrolls on
focus, and each scroll restyled the whole screen. Instead of listing
widgets, walk main_screen once and keep scroll events local on every
scrollable widget that bubbles; text areas keep the jump-to-cursor
handler.

…le flag

The touch hotfix strips LV_OBJ_FLAG_EVENT_BUBBLE from main-screen widgets,
including message_input_area, so the widget walk skipped text areas and
textareaScrollEvent never ran to zero the scroll animation duration.

Hi, there is no issue related to this "fix". I don't see any issue with the actual scroll performance in master. Since commit d438702 on Aug, 28th the text input in the message text area is quick.
The reason for the event bubble is to keep the six hotkeys working (even when typing text) which are now probably non-functional.

It’s a function of the mesh size and activity. On a small or quiet mesh it’s not noticeable, but once the device accumulates a lot of messages it starts to lag, then become unusable. At our activity levels it only takes a day to start lagging. All the other M9 users on our local mesh are complaining about it and have stopped using theirs.

Here is a video before the fix (on 8dde4ec which is master @ 3d63783 plus #448 because without that it just boot loops):

m9-8dde4ec-before-fix.mp4

The scroll back is halting and unresponsive. Typing into the text input works fine until the message exceeds the width of the input bar, and then it starts dropping most keypresses. (Note that it also took over 6 minutes to restore the messages on this build, include a crash in the middle.)

Here is a video with the fix (plus #448, #449):

m9-with-fix.mp4

It's downright snappy, the text input keeps working even once the content exceeds the width, and the hotkeys still work while entering text.
