Visual display of all routes on map

Enhancement request. There are times when I forget the name I have given to a route and want to see what routes I have created within a particular area. I realise I could add an area tag to every route, but it would be much easier if there were a simple way to switch on display of all routes so that by looking at a small scale version of the map you could see all the routes for a particular area. I realise this may not be possible due to resource constraints but please consider.

Thanks for suggesting this one! I completely agree, would like to do the same and have been thinking about how to do it.

The resource constraint you suggest is true. At the moment the list of plans does not include the coordinates for each part of the plan, because it is just too much data. The coordinates are only loaded when you view a specific plan.

The solution will be to precompute the extent of each part of the plan (or just the overall extent of the plan). That is just 4 coords so can be downloaded with the list for eery plan. From this I can compute an R-Tree of all the plans, to make a really efficient 2D spatial index. Then a query like "give me all plans that overlap my current screen view" will be very fast.

I'll then need to work out how to display it. If the query resulted in 2 or 3 plans, then fine: could go off and fetch each one and display it. But if you have zoomed out and are looking at the entire UK then the query could result in hundreds of plans and loading all the will be very slow...

I have been thinking that instead of using the normal map view this might need a dedicated map view within the 'Your Plans' page that shows the center point of each plan, and then you click a 'View' button as with the current list view. This would work fine if the center point was a fair representation of the plan, which is would be for a 10km circular walk. But if the plan was a 400km multi-day cycle tour then the center point is less useful!

Any thoughts on what your ideal view for this would be?
