TML-3540: The Prisma ORM 7 to 8 guide lets Prisma ORM 8 take over migrations while it reads schema.prisma - #8771
A team that reads its Prisma ORM 7 schema through prisma7Schema(...) can now follow the guide all the way through:
contract: prisma7Schema("prisma/schema.prisma"),
Before this change, the guide told those teams to switch to a printed Prisma ORM 8 contract file before Prisma ORM 8 takes over migrations. Prisma ORM 8 no longer needs that. It plans and applies migrations while it reads schema.prisma, and the team keeps editing that file in the Prisma ORM 7 syntax. The examples/prisma7-adoption example in prisma/orm runs this path end to end.
What changes in the guide
Step 2.2 tip. The switch before phase 4 is gone. Two new paragraphs say:
Extensions: a datasource extensions list, or @db.Citext, needs the matching extension pack: pgvector, PostGIS, ParadeDB or citext. Without it, contract emit fails with PSL.PRISMA7_EXTENSION_PACK_MISSING. Any other listed extension becomes part of the contract. db sign accepts a pack's extension in any schema on the search path, such as Supabase's extensions.
@ignore and @@ignore: ignored fields and models stay in the contract, so their types must be ones Prisma ORM 8 reads.
Phase 4. On the prisma7Schema path, schema.prisma is not frozen: it stays the contract, and each change is followed by prisma7 generate. Step 4.2 now says why prisma7 migrate must not run again.
Phase 5. On the prisma7Schema path, contract print writes the Prisma ORM 8 contract file before Prisma ORM 7 is removed. A schema with @ignore, @@ignore or Unsupported(...) fields cannot be printed yet. It keeps schema.prisma as the contract, and only prisma/migrations is deleted.
The PrismaMigrations model step that the ticket names was already removed from the guide.
Merge after the next ORM release
The sentence about a pack's extension on the search path describes prisma/orm#30956, which has merged but is not released yet. Merge this PR once an @prisma/orm-postgres release includes it.
Alternatives considered
Re-sign steps for projects signed before @ignore objects were kept in the contract. Left out. They apply only to a project that upgrades from an earlier Prisma ORM 8 release candidate, and the upgrade instructions for that release already cover them. Someone following this guide for the first time never meets that case.
Closes TML-3540.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Documentation
Clarified PostgreSQL extension-pack requirements for Prisma ORM 8 and how missing packs affect contract emission. Documented that supported extensions are included in contracts and checked when signing.
Added guidance for transferring migration ownership while keeping schema.prisma editable, regenerating Prisma ORM 7 clients after schema changes, and retaining prisma7Schema(...) for schemas with ignored or unsupported fields.
Explained that after Prisma ORM 8 applies a migration, Prisma ORM 7 migration commands may report drift and offer a reset.
The PostgreSQL upgrade guide now covers extension-pack requirements, using schema.prisma during migration handoff, migration-history drift, and options for removing Prisma ORM 7.

Summary
Contract and extension guidance apps/docs/content/docs/guides/upgrade-prisma-orm/postgresql.mdx
The guide describes extension-pack configuration, contract checks, and using schema.prisma as the contract with prisma7Schema(...).
Migration handoff and cleanup apps/docs/content/docs/guides/upgrade-prisma-orm/postgresql.mdx
The guide adds schema regeneration steps during handoff, explains migration drift after Prisma ORM 8 applies a migration, and describes contract conversion or retention when removing Prisma ORM 7.
The guide is mergeable with a small documentation correction: distinguish the regenerated shared-schema client from the separate-contract path so readers understand which clients expose the new column.

So far every schema change has gone through `prisma7 migrate dev`. In this phase Prisma ORM 8 takes over planning and applying schema changes, and `prisma/schema.prisma` is frozen.
If Prisma ORM 8 reads `prisma/schema.prisma` through `prisma7Schema(...)`, as in the tip in step 2.2, `schema.prisma` is not frozen: it stays your contract, and you keep editing it in the Prisma ORM 7 syntax. In step 4.3, make the change in `schema.prisma` instead of `prisma8/contract.prisma`. After each change, also run `npx prisma7 generate`, so that the Prisma ORM 7 client of the routes that have not moved knows the new schema. The [prisma7-adoption example](https://github.com/prisma/orm/tree/main/examples/prisma7-adoption) runs this path.

Distinguish the two contract paths in step 4.3.
When readers use prisma7Schema(...), regenerating the Prisma ORM 7 client makes bio available to it. Step 4.3 incorrectly says that client does not know the column. Limit that explanation to the separate-contract path and describe the regenerated client behavior for the shared-schema path.
