blog(host-a-test-version): Prisma Compute described as app hosting, Render stacked pull request previews from November 18, 2026 - #8768
This guide explains how to host a test version of an app next to production with previews per branch or pull request, staging, test databases and feature flags, and how Fly.io, Netlify, Prisma Compute, Railway, Render and Vercel do it.
Changes
Opening answer: the list of six hosts now says what Prisma Compute is: Prisma's app hosting, which runs apps next to Prisma Postgres. Before, the opening named Prisma Compute without saying what it is or that it runs next to Prisma Postgres, which the host table and the Prisma section treat as one host. The host order, the links and the disclosure note do not change.
Render, "How each host starts a preview" bullet: still says automatic mode previews each pull request against the Blueprint's linked branch, and now adds that from November 18, 2026, it also previews each GitHub pull request stacked on that branch, and that a pull request whose title includes [skip preview] gets no preview. Render announced the stacked change for GitHub stacks on 2026-11-04.
Render row of "Which host fits your app":automatic now reads "every pull request against the Blueprint's linked branch except those whose title includes [skip preview]", and adds that if every service has a root directory or build filters, only pull requests that change files under them get one; then the same dated change for GitHub pull requests stacked on the linked branch; the note under the table now gives 2026-11-08 as the date the Render cells were last checked.
Render section: in "Test version", "for each pull request" now reads "for each pull request against the Blueprint's linked branch", which is what Render's docs say today, and automatic mode skips pull requests whose title includes [skip preview]; it also says that if every service in the Blueprint has a root directory or build filters, Render creates a preview environment only when a pull request changes files under at least one service's paths. A new "Stacked pull requests" line says that until November 18, 2026, a pull request that does not directly target the linked branch gets no preview, then gives the dated change for GitHub stacks, for preview environments and service previews, that Render's support team can turn it on sooner, and that each preview's resources are billed, so in automatic mode [skip preview] keeps a pull request in a stack from getting a preview it does not need.
Sources: the Render row adds Render's changelog entry on stacked pull requests, with preview environments, service previews and the changelog entry re-checked on 2026-11-08; the Prisma row adds the Prisma Compute docs page, checked 2026-11-06.
updatedAt is 2026-11-08. The 2026-11-06 update-history line matches main again, and a new 2026-11-08 line records these changes.
No title, meta title, meta description, heading or anchor changes.

Explanation
The title is specific and matches the main changes in the blog post. It names the file's topic (blog(host-a-test-version)), the Prisma Compute description change, and the Render stacked pull request preview change with its November 18, 2026 start date. The raw summary confirms both edits in the MDX file, so the title is accurate, though it is long at 127 characters.

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Limit the announced stacked-preview support to GitHub.
Render’s announcement and preview documentation describe this support for GitHub stacks. Render also supports other Git providers, so the unqualified statement can lead those users to expect support on November 18. Qualify the stacked-preview claims here, in the opening bullet, and in the table. (render.com)

- Line 28: Update the Render bullet to qualify that automatic previews are
created only for pull requests whose titles do not include “[skip preview],”
including stacked pull requests, so readers know how to avoid unnecessary
preview costs.

…kip preview] skips a preview
- Render bullet, host table row and section: the November 18, 2026 change to
previews for stacked pull requests covers GitHub stacks, as Render's
changelog and preview docs say.
- In automatic mode, a pull request whose title includes [skip preview] gets
no preview; the section suggests it for stacked pull requests that do not
need one, since each preview's resources are billed.
- updatedAt is 2026-11-08. The 2026-11-06 update-history line is back to the
text on main, and this change has its own 2026-11-08 line.

On the additional comment at line 164 (limit the stacked-preview support to GitHub): fixed in e2ec4d3. The opening Render bullet now says "each GitHub pull request stacked on it", the host table row says "GitHub pull requests stacked on the linked branch", and the Render section's "Stacked pull requests" line says "every pull request in a GitHub stack built on the linked branch". The line about pull requests before November 18 keeps its wording without a provider, because Render's changelog says that today it previews only pull requests that directly target the linked branch.

- Line 164: Update the “Stacked pull requests” description to clarify that
before November 18, 2026, the preview exclusion applies only to pull requests
that do not directly target the Blueprint’s or service’s linked branch. Preserve
the existing post-date behavior and billing guidance.
- Line 45: Update the Render row’s automatic-preview coverage and the
corresponding Render section to clarify that filtered Blueprints create previews
only when a pull request’s changes match at least one service; preserve the
existing distinction between automatic and manual preview settings.

…h build filters
- Stacked pull requests: before November 18, 2026, the line now says that a
pull request gets no preview when it does not directly target the linked
branch, as Render's changelog puts it, rather than whenever it targets
another pull request's branch (a linked branch can itself have an open pull
request).
- Render host table row and Test version: if every service in the Blueprint
has a root directory or build filters, Render creates a preview environment
only when a pull request changes files under at least one service's paths.
- The 2026-11-08 update-history line covers both.
