fix(mobile): choosing a project for a draft whose project is gone keeps the draft - #26800
On mobile, opening an Unsent draft whose project no longer exists (for example after a failed clone was removed, or the project was removed from another client) correctly asks you to choose a project, but choosing one opens an empty composer instead of the draft's text and attachments. Reproduced on an Android Pixel 9 at main 8298664: draft in project beta, remove beta, tap the Unsent row, Choose project, pick alpha: empty composer, while the draft stays untouched in Unsent.
Change
resolveRouteDraft returned missing both for a draft that is gone and for a draft whose project is gone. It now returns pickProject for the second case. The draft screen still replaces itself with the project picker, but passes the draft's id along. When the picker has a draft id, choosing a project (or No project) retargets that draft to the chosen project with the existing retargetNewTaskDraft (the same helper the in-composer project switch uses) and opens the draft route with that id, so the composer shows the saved content. The draft is only retargeted on a choice, so backing out of the picker leaves it as it was. A draft that is really gone keeps today's behaviour.
vp test run apps/mobile/src/features/threads/new-task-flow-state.test.ts: 10/10 pass. resolveRouteDraft > asks for a project for the same draft when its project is gone fails on main (expected { kind: 'missing' } to deeply equal { kind: 'pickProject', draftId: 'new-task:draft-1' }) and passes here; reports a draft that is gone still resolves to missing.
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck (2 packages), tests pass.
Device runs, Pixel 9 emulator, Android 16 / API 36, 1080×2424, font scale 1.0, dark theme, Expo dev client; each side ran its own JS bundle against a fresh unseeded server database; drafts entered through the UI, projects added and removed with t3 project add/remove:
F1 reported flow: draft in beta, beta removed, Unsent row → Choose project → alpha

F2 open the orphan draft, Back out of the picker, reopen and pick alpha; a second healthy draft alongside

persisted drafts identical across the cancel; the orphan is recovered into alpha; the other draft is unchanged
F3 healthy draft (project still present), project chip cancel and switch

opens directly; cancel keeps beta and text; switching to alpha keeps text
F4 route naming a draft that does not exist (app link) → picker → alpha

fresh empty composer; other drafts unchanged
F8 orphan draft → Choose project → No project
not run
scratch composer with the original text and draft id
F1 before/after destination frames, status bar masked: zero-threshold diff is confined to the composer row (y 2242–2320: recovered text, Send enabled); nothing else differs. An independent rebuild of the F1 after-frame at 2a2e0d4 matched every app pixel exactly. The branch head adds only a merge from main (web-only changes) on top of 2a2e0d4.
Not checked: iOS and tablet layouts (same code path, no platform branch in the change); a draft whose environment is still loading when it is opened (unchanged pending path, covered by existing unit tests). Choosing "Add new project" from this picker still opens a separate draft; that path is unchanged by this PR.

No code changes; evidence and verification added below.

Real Android dev client (com.t3tools.t3code.dev) on a pooled Pixel 9 emulator, Android 16 / API 36 x86_64, portrait 1080×2424, DPR 2.625, font scale 1.0, no device emulation, explicit Dark and Light themes, JS clock frozen at 2026-10-29T12:00Z, agent-device 0.21.32 native screenshots and H.264 recordings. Each side ran its own JS bundle against a fresh dev server (T3CODE_DEV_SEED=0, fresh home) on one native fingerprint (8006860c65); projects were added and removed with the server CLI, drafts were typed in the app. Diffs mask the top 64 px (status bar). Diff0 = |RGB difference| ×255, clipped, on lossless native screenshots (script); DiffT = max-channel difference > 12/255 on the recording keyframes, magenta over the dimmed base. F1, the reported flow: draft in beta → Back → beta removed → open the Unsent row → Choose project → alpha → Back → reopen.
What else changed (F1): the composer placeholder becomes the draft text 26785 keep this draft and Send becomes enabled. After Back, the Unsent row is labelled alpha and reopens straight into the draft; before, the orphan stays unlabelled and asks for a project again. At zero threshold no pixel outside the composer differs in either theme. Persisted draft storage shows the same draft id, createdAt, content and attachments, a project stamp moved to alpha, and no new draft key.
Head-only rows (7efa01755f; the before side of each is the bug in F1 or code this PR does not change). Each row is checked against read-only snapshots of persisted draft storage, and all 14 comparisons pass.

Verification log
Tests: new-task-flow-state.test.ts 10/10 on 7efa01755f; with the merge-base new-task-flow-state.ts, only resolveRouteDraft > asks for a project for the same draft when its project is gone fails.
Proof audit pass 1 derived 7 rows (F1–F6, F8; Pixel 9 portrait, dark and light). Captures: 7/7 rows, 12 head recordings, 2 base recordings, 2 stills.
Proof audit pass 2: an independent rebuild of the F1 dark after-frame at 7efa01755f differs from the delivered frame in 13 gesture-bar pixels (max 1/255); app content is identical. Its findings were fixed: F1 Diff0 now uses lossless frames regenerated with 32-bit math (the first version overflowed in 16-bit; changed pixels are confined to y 2242–2320 in both themes), the F2 dark raw archive no longer holds a rejected settle frame, and a diagnostics archive with dev-server pairing tokens (for a stopped, isolated server) was deleted. A fresh re-check recomputed the F1 diffs from the raw archives: all 7 rows sufficient.
Open: CodeRabbit's note on NewTaskRouteScreen.tsx:247 (retargeting before persisted drafts hydrate, reachable through a cold-start /new?draftId= link) matches the code: hydration merges in-memory drafts over persisted ones. This round made no code changes.
The device-run table in the Verification section above names the pre-merge commits 8298664e9e and 2a2e0d425a; the Evidence section is the record for head 7efa01755f.
CI on 7efa01755f: all required checks pass; Macroscope approvable.

…ts identity through the picker
resolveRouteDraft reports a stamped draft whose project is no longer loaded as
missing, the same as a deleted draft, so the draft screen sends the user to the
project picker without the draft and choosing a project opens an empty composer.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… project picker
Opening an Unsent draft whose stamped project no longer exists sent the
user to "Choose project", but picking a project opened a fresh, empty
draft: the route resolution treated "draft gone" and "project gone" alike.
The resolver now reports `pickProject` with the draft id when only the
project is gone. The draft screen hands that id to the picker, which
retargets the draft to the chosen project and opens it, so the composer
shows the saved text and attachments. Backing out of the picker leaves the
draft untouched; a draft that is truly gone still gets a fresh one.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Mobile drafts now retain their saved content when users choose a replacement for an unavailable project. Retargeting happens only after explicit selection, with existing safeguards for workspace state and cross-environment attachment references.

The mobile flow now distinguishes a missing draft from one whose project is unavailable. For the latter, it carries the draft ID through project selection, retargets the draft to the selected project, and opens the thread with that draft ID.
Route-draft resolution returns pickProject with the draft ID when loading is complete but the stamped project is unavailable. The provider exposes the resolution kind and ID. Tests distinguish this case from a missing draft.

The draft screen returns to project selection for an unopenable route draft and passes its ID when the resolution kind is pickProject.
Retarget the draft to the selected project apps/mobile/src/features/threads/NewTaskRouteScreen.tsx
The project route reads the draft ID, retargets that draft to the selected environment and project, and opens the thread with the draft ID.

Recovering a draft whose project is gone now works from the picker. A cold-start link that carries a draft ID can still select a project before saved drafts load, and that can overwrite the saved draft with an empty one. Wait for draft hydration and confirm the draft exists before retargeting it.

Explanation
[26785] The flow now distinguishes an existing draft with an unavailable project from a missing draft. It carries the existing draft ID through the picker, retargets that draft on project selection, and opens the same draft. This preserves its saved payload, including attachments. A missing draft retains the prior behavior. The resolution keeps the pending state while the environment loads. The PR reports regression tests for missing and unavailable-project drafts, and device checks for canceling without changes and choosing a project or “No project.”
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections. It explains the reported bug (an Unsent draft whose project is gone opens an empty composer), the fix (resolveRouteDraft returns pickProject, and the picker retargets the draft with its id), and the verification (unit tests plus extensive device runs with before/after evidence). It links issue #26785 under Scope and approval. The Scope and approval section gives only a bare issue reference with no maintainer approval comment or discussion link, and the template asks for that. The description also has a Takeover section and a verification log that the template does not define. The description is mostly complete, so it passes, but the approval evidence is thin.

Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Preserve the draft when adding a project.
If the user chooses “Add new project” from this picker, the project creation flow opens a new draft without this draftId. The saved text and attachments remain in Unsent instead of opening with the new project. Carry the recovery ID through project creation and retarget it before opening the draft. ## Passing params
A common use case is to pass params to a screen to pass some data. For example, you may want the `Profile` screen to have an `id` param to know which user's profile it is. It's possible to pass params to a screen through a URL when handling deep links.
By default, query params are parsed to get the params for a screen. For example, with the above example, the URL `/user?id=jane` will pass the `id` param to the `Profile` screen.
You can also customize how the params are parsed from the URL. Let's say you want the URL to look like `/user/jane` where the `id` param is `jane` instead of having the `id` in query params. You can do this by specifying `user/:id` for the `path`. When the path segment starts with `:`, it'll be treated as a param. For example, the URL `/user/jane` would resolve to `Profile` screen with the string `jane` as a value of the `id` param and will be available in `route.params.id` in `Profile` screen.
By default, all params are treated as strings. You can also customize how to parse them by specifying a function in the `parse` property to parse the param, and a function in the `stringify` property to convert it back to a string.

<title>Configuring links | React Navigation</title>
<location>https://reactnavigation.org/docs/configuring-links/</location>
<excerpt>citeturn1search2 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: last week; If you specify `enabled: 'auto'` in the `linking` prop, React Navigation will automatically generate paths for all screens. ... * `Chat` screen that handles the URL `/feed` with the param `sort` (e.g. `/feed/latest` - the `Chat` screen will receive a param `sort` with the value `latest`). ... If the URL contains a query string, it'll be passed as params to the screen.
Let's say we have the following navigation structure:
`
const HomeTabs = createBottomTabNavigator({
screens: {
Home: {
screen: HomeScreen,
},
Settings: {
screen: SettingsScreen,
},
},
});
const RootStack = createStackNavigator({
screens: {
HomeTabs: {
screen: HomeTabs,
},
Profile: {
screen: ProfileScreen,
},
Chat: {
screen: ChatScreen,
},
},
});
`
With automatic path generation, the following paths will be generated:
* `/` navigates to the `HomeTabs` -> `Home` screen
* `/settings` navigates to the `HomeTabs` -> `Settings` screen
* `/profile` navigates to the `Profile` screen
* `/chat` navigates to the `Chat` screen
If the URL contains a query string, it'll be passed as params to the screen. For example, the URL `/profile?user=jane` will pass the `user` param to the `Profile` screen.

<title>Passing parameters to routes | React Navigation</title>
<location>https://reactnavigation.org/docs/params/</location>
<excerpt>citeturn0search2 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: last week; Some param names are reserved by React Navigation for nested navigator APIs: ... Think of params like URL query parameters - they should contain identifiers and state, not actual data objects. ... * Params can be read from the `params` property of the `route` object
## Initial params
Initial params can be specified in `initialParams`. These are used when navigating to the screen without params, and are shallow merged with any params that you pass:
* Static
* Dynamic
`
{
Details: {
screen: DetailsScreen,
initialParams: { itemId: 42 },
},
}
`
`
<Stack.Screen
name="Details"
component={DetailsScreen}
initialParams={{ itemId: 42 }}
/>
`
## Updating params
Screens can update their params using `navigation.setParams`:
* Static
* Dynamic
`
navigation.setParams({
itemId: Math.floor(Math.random() * 100),
})
`

`
navigation.setParams({
itemId: Math.floor(Math.random() * 100),
})
`

`setParams` merges new params with existing ones. To replace params entirely, use `replaceParams`.
note
Avoid using `setParams` or `replaceParams` to update screen options like `title`. Use `setOptions` instead.
## Passing params to a previous screen
Params can be passed to a previous screen as well, for example, when you have a "Create post" button that opens a new screen and you want to pass the post data back.
Use `popTo` to go back to the previous screen and pass params to it:
* Static
* Dynamic
`
function HomeScreen({ route }) {
const navigation = useNavigation();
// Use an effect to monitor the update to params
React.useEffect(() => {
if (route.params?.post) {
// Post updated, do something with `route.params.post`
// For example, send the post to the server
alert('New post: ' + route.params?.post);
}
}, [route.params?.post]);
return (
<View style={{ flex: 1, alignItems: 'center', justifyContent: 'center' }}>
<Button onPress={() => navigation.navigate('CreatePost')}>

</Button>
// Use an effect to monitor the update to params
React.useEffect(() => {
if (route.params?.post) {
// Post updated, do something with `route.params.post`

}
}, [route.params?.post]);
return (
<View style={{ flex: 1, alignItems: 'center', justifyContent: 'center' }}>
<Button onPress={() => navigation.navigate('CreatePost')}>

</Button>
<Text style={{ margin: 10 }}>Post: {route.params?.post}</Text>
</View>
);
}
function CreatePostScreen({ route }) {
const navigation = useNavigation();
const [postText, setPostText] = React.useState('');
return (

## Passing params to a nested screen
If you have nested navigators, pass params using the same pattern as navigating to a nested screen:

screen: 'Settings',
params: { userId: 'jane' },
})
`

See Nesting navigators for more details on nesting.
## Reserved param names
Some param names are reserved by React Navigation for nested navigator APIs:
* `screen`
* `params`
* `initial`
* `state`
Avoid using these param names in your code. Trying to read these params in parent screens is not recommended and will cause unexpected behavior.
## What should be in params
Params should contain the minimal information required to show a screen:
* Data to identify what to display (e.g. user id, item id)
* Screen-specific state (e.g. sort order, filters, page numbers)
Think of params like URL query parameters - they should contain identifiers and state, not actual data objects. The actual data should come from a global store or cache.
For example, say you have a `Profile` screen. You might be tempted to pass the user object in params:
`
// Don't do this
navigation.navigate('Profile', {
user: {
id: 'jane',
firstName: 'Jane',
lastName: 'Done',
age: 25,
},
});
`
This is an anti-pattern because:
* Data is duplicated, leading to stale data bugs
* Each screen navigating here needs to know how to fetch the user
* URLs/deep links would contain the full object, causing issues
Instead, pass only the ID:
`
navigation.navigate('Profile', { userId: 'jane' });
`
Then fetch the user data using the ID from a global cache or API. Libraries like React Query can help with fetching and caching.
Good examples of params:
* IDs: `navigation.navigate('Profile', { userId: 'jane' })`
* Sorting/filtering: `navigation.navigate('Feeds', { sortBy: 'latest' })`
* Pagination: `navigation.navigate('Chat', { beforeTime: 1603897152675 })`
* Input data: `navigation.navigate('ComposeTweet', { title: 'Hello world!' })`
## Summary
* Params can be passed to screens as the second argument to navigation methods like `navigate` and `push`
* Params can be read from the `params` property of the `route` object
* Params can be updated with `navigation.setParams` or `navigation.replaceParams`
* Initial params can be passed via the `initialParams` prop
* Params should contain the minimal data needed to identify a screen (e.g. IDs instead of full objects)
* Some param names are reserved by React Navigation</excerpt>

A cold-start /new?draftId=... link opens NewTaskProject directly and bypasses the Thread route’s hydration guard. If the user selects a project while hydration is pending, retargetNewTaskDraft creates an empty entry for the key; hydration can then let that entry override the saved draft, and the next persistence write can lose its text and attachments. Await waitForComposerDraftsLoaded() and confirm the key exists before retargeting.

In the NewTaskProject flow, await waitForComposerDraftsLoaded() before calling
retargetNewTaskDraft, then confirm routeDraftId exists before retargeting. Do
not create or retarget a draft while hydration is pending or when the key is
absent.

Problem
On mobile, opening an Unsent draft whose project no longer exists (for example after a failed clone was removed, or the project was removed from another client) correctly asks you to choose a project, but choosing one opens an empty composer instead of the draft's text and attachments. Reproduced on an Android Pixel 9 at main 8298664: draft in project beta, remove beta, tap the Unsent row, Choose project, pick alpha: empty composer, while the draft stays untouched in Unsent.
Change
resolveRouteDraftreturnedmissingboth for a draft that is gone and for a draft whose project is gone. It now returnspickProjectfor the second case. The draft screen still replaces itself with the project picker, but passes the draft's id along. When the picker has a draft id, choosing a project (or No project) retargets that draft to the chosen project with the existingretargetNewTaskDraft(the same helper the in-composer project switch uses) and opens the draft route with that id, so the composer shows the saved content. The draft is only retargeted on a choice, so backing out of the picker leaves it as it was. A draft that is really gone keeps today's behaviour.Scope and approval
