⚠️ This issue respects the following points: ⚠️
Bug description
Nextcloud 33.0.9 /index.php/settings/admin/talk - Admin settings for Talk
The wording under "Limit to groups" is not perfectly synced with the behavior of the "Add participants" dialog in Talk.
I want to propose an additional text. Now it says "When at least one group is selected, only people of the listed groups can be part of conversations".
This could be made a bit clearer. Because when "Limit using Talk" contains a list of groups, Nextcloud/Talk won't allow inviting other groups to a conversation by group name, even if all members of that group are also members of any (or all) of the listed groups. The behavior makes perfect sense, but the wording on the admin page steers the mental focus onto "people", not groups themselves.
So, this is really a low-priority cosmetic-natured "issue". Perhaps add something along the lines of:
"Note that when in use, no other groups than the ones listed can be invited into conversations."
That would have saved me half an hour of troubleshooting.
Steps to reproduce
- Create a group containing all users
- Enter it in "Limit using Talk"
- Start a new chat and try to invite another group (a smaller group which is a sub-set of the "all users" group).
- No other groups than the permitted ones are visible.
The behavior makes perfect sense, but the wording "only people of the listed groups can..." tricked me into disregarding that it really means "only the listed groups (and people thereof) can be invited".
Expected behavior
I expected to realize intuitively that entering groups in the "Limit using Talk" would hide all other groups from the search in the Add participants dialog in Talk.
