fix(theme-classic): show announcement bar on first load when id changes - #12838
Currently, Docusaurus injects an inline script via getAnnouncementBarInlineScript to prevent flash of content (FOUC) by checking localStorage.getItem('docusaurus.announcement.dismiss') === 'true' and setting data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed="true" on <html>.
However, getAnnouncementBarInlineScript was not checking whether the stored announcement ID matched the current announcement ID. As a result, when an announcement bar's ID is changed, a user who previously dismissed an old announcement would have data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed="true" applied to <html> on their first load of the new announcement, hiding the new announcement until they refreshed or navigated.
Changes:
Updated getAnnouncementBarInlineScript to accept announcementBar?: {id?: string}.
In the inline script, if announcementBar.id is configured, check that localStorage.getItem('docusaurus.announcement.id') matches the current ID before considering it dismissed.
In useAnnouncementBarContext, clean up data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed on document.documentElement if isNewAnnouncement || !isDismissedInStorage().
Added unit test suite in packages/docusaurus-theme-classic/src/__tests__/announcementBarInlineScript.test.ts and updated inlineScripts.test.ts.
Test Plan
Added unit tests in packages/docusaurus-theme-classic/src/__tests__/announcementBarInlineScript.test.ts verifying:
Sets data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed="true" when the same announcement was previously dismissed.
Sets data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed="false" when a new announcement ID is published.
Sets data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed="false" when no announcement was dismissed.
Ran pnpm test packages/docusaurus-theme-classic — all 70 tests passed.
Ran pnpm test packages/docusaurus-theme-common — all tests passed.
Fixesmeta#12646
When an announcement bar's id is updated, users who previously dismissed
a prior announcement would not see the new announcement on first page load
because getAnnouncementBarInlineScript set data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed="true"
without checking if the stored announcement ID matched the current announcement ID.
This commit updates getAnnouncementBarInlineScript to inspect the stored ID
and removes data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed when the announcement
is new.

The inline announcement-bar script now checks the configured ID against the stored ID before setting dismissal state. The theme passes the announcement configuration to the script. The provider removes the initial-dismissal attribute when the announcement is new or not dismissed.
Changes: Announcement bar visibility

Summary
Update announcement bar dismissal state packages/docusaurus-theme-classic/src/inlineScripts.ts, packages/docusaurus-theme-classic/src/index.ts, packages/docusaurus-theme-common/src/contexts/announcementBar.tsx, packages/docusaurus-theme-classic/src/__tests__/*
The inline script checks the stored announcement ID against the configured ID. The theme passes the announcement configuration to the script. The provider removes the initially-dismissed document attribute when the announcement is new or not dismissed. Tests cover script generation and dismissal results.
The announcement visibility fix is consistent across initialization and hydration. A remaining narrow edge case breaks first-load theme initialization when an announcement ID contains a closing script tag; escape the ID or avoid that sequence before deployment.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Directly linked issue #12646 is the only active target. It is open and has no parent context. Coding requirements:
The inline script must not treat the bar as dismissed when the stored announcement ID differs from the configured ID.
The configured announcementBar.id must reach getAnnouncementBarInlineScript from theme-classic/src/index.ts.
The data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed attribute must not keep hiding a new bar after hydration.
Evidence at reviewed head 7e2dcd0:
Requirement 1: inlineScripts.ts accepts announcementBar?: {id?: string}. When id is set, the generated isDismissed() returns false if docusaurus.announcement.id<namespace> differs from the JSON-encoded ID. Otherwise it returns the dismiss-key check. The ID key uses the same namespace suffix as the React slot in announcementBar.tsx, so both sides read the same key.
Requirement 2: index.ts calls getAnnouncementBarInlineScript({siteStorage, announcementBar}) when announcementBar is configured. Otherwise the injected string is empty.
Requirement 3: In announcementBar.tsx, the effect calls document.documentElement.removeAttribute('data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed') when isNewAnnouncement || !isDismissedInStorage(). This runs with setClosed(false), so the CSS rule no longer hides the rendered bar.
Issue trace: stored ID announcement-1, configured ID announcement-2. The inline script sets the attribute to false. The effect resets dismiss and renders the bar. The reproduction steps in the issue are addressed.
The issue does not request automated tests. The test files are not read in this review, so their content is not verified. This does not affect the verdict.
Uncertainty: the incremental diff from previous reviewed head e5d3fa4 could not be read because changed blobs are missing from the checkout. The verdict relies on the head state of the changed source files, which matches the earlier PASS trace.

Explanation
The whole-PR file set against merge base 2a89055 contains:
inlineScripts.ts: adds the ID parameter and the ID check. This implements requirement 1 of #12646.
index.ts: passes announcementBar to the inline script. This implements requirement 2.
announcementBar.tsx: removes the initial-dismissal attribute when the bar becomes active. This implements requirement 3.
announcementBarInlineScript.test.ts and inlineScripts.test.ts: tests for the changed inline script behavior. These support the objective.
No changed file is unrelated to #12646. The storage key names and namespace logic are unchanged. When no announcement ID is configured, the generated script does not include the ID check.
Uncertainty: the incremental diff from e5d3fa4 to 7e2dcd0 could not be read. The file set and head content of the changed source files were checked, and no unrelated change was found in them.

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 1 functions across 5 files.

Read the configured storage backend in the announcement inline script.
The generated script reads localStorage for the announcement ID and dismissal keys. The React provider reads and writes the backend set by siteStorage.type. For a sessionStorage site, the script cannot see the stored dismissal. It sets data-announcement-bar-initially-dismissed to false, so the bar can appear on first paint. After hydration, the provider reads sessionStorage and hides the bar. The result is a flash of a dismissed bar, not a persistent one.
The dismissal read already used localStorage before this change. The ID read is new in this change. Both reads need the configured backend.
The announcement script tests use only type: 'localStorage', so they cannot detect this mismatch. Add a sessionStorage case.

Escape < in the announcement ID before inlining it into the script.
JSON.stringify(id) does not escape <. The id value is emitted into the <script> element's innerHTML without HTML escaping, so an ID containing </script> ends the script early and breaks first-load theme initialization.

Escape less-than characters in the serialized announcement ID used by the inline

The sessionStorage test covers only a matching announcement ID. Its expected value is 'true', which the dismiss value alone also produces. A change that skips the ID comparison on the sessionStorage path would still pass this test. The localStorage path has a mismatched-ID case, but no sessionStorage case covers it.

Add a sessionStorage mismatch test alongside the existing announcement-bar
inline-script tests: store a dismissed ID different from the configured ID,
execute the script from getAnnouncementBarInlineScript, and assert
initially-dismissed is false. Keep the test scoped to sessionStorage so it
verifies that this path checks the announcement ID as well as the dismiss value.
