As you have been saying for a long time AMD drivers on Linux are not stable enough regarding Open CL and break after kernel updates.
In order to help AMD help themselves making a better driver, MMX could provide a simple sample code with 2 tests.
1- Initialization of the driver
2- Execution the VDF
The 1st one would allow for AMD to perform regression tests, to ensure that the GPU is detected correctly.
The 2nd one would allow for AMD to optimize the driver for the VDF function.
This way, even if AMD does not proactively does a quality control of this issues, we could open issues in their bug tracking system and point to the test code. Since it would hopefully be just a few lines of code, they could inspect it, build the executable and run it to test the driver.
I know you have a lot of work, still I think this extra work would be helpful in the long run of the project, because it would help decrease the issues/incompatibilities with the AMD drivers and hopefully have shorted VDF times.
