Build Source Confirmation (REQUIRED)
Client (Wand) version
12.50 or newer
Enhancer version
1.0.9.4
Describe the bug
Workaround — Wand does not open after patching (versions above 12.50)
Temporary workaround only — there is no official fix yet. This worked for me, hopefully it works for you too.
Important prerequisite: This workaround relies on Windows Previous Versions (Shadow Copy / Volume Shadow Copy) being enabled on the drive where WeMod is installed. If Shadow Copy is not enabled on your machine, this workaround may not work for you.
Steps
- Kill all Wand processes make sure nothing from WeMod/Wand is running (check Task Manager and the system tray).
- Locate the WeMod installation folder (usually): "C:\Users<your username>\AppData\Local\WeMod"
- Make a backup — copy the whole folder to another directory, or create a ZIP of it. Either way, just keep it safe before changing anything.
- Right-click the
WeMod folder → Properties → Previous Versions tab.
- Pick a previous version and restore its content (the main directory, the
packages folder, and the version folders) to another directory. Be patient — it is a large folder, it takes a while to copy.
- Back in the original WeMod installation folder, delete all version folders (e.g.
app-12.xx.xx) and delete the packages folder.
- From the restored copy, copy the last working version folder (e.g.
app-12.45 in my case) and the packages folder back into the original WeMod installation directory.
- In the main directory (the one that contains
Wand.exe) - not inside (app-xx-xx):
- There is an
update.exe file there — delete it (or rename it to a non-executable name, e.g. update.eZe). This stops WeMod from updating itself again and breaking the rollback.
- Run
Wand.exe and check that you are on PRO. If you are not, apply the Wand Enhancer patch.
- Enjoy! ✅
Notes from my testing
- During my tests, version 12.45 (the newest one I had available in Shadow Copy) showed no issues downloading new mods or running them.
- This is a workaround, not a fix — keep an eye out for an official solution in a future release.
- Inside "Packages," you will most likely find newer versions, such as 12.50 and up... If you delete or rename the Update.exe file, it won't update; the "RELEASE" file located in the "packages" folder is what determines which version gets executed.
