Cannot load libwidevinecdm.so : DT_RELR without GLIBC_ABI_DT_RELR dependency

I am running LibreElec 12.2.0 with Kodi 21.2 on an arm64 architecture (Raspberry Pi 4B), and I have InputStreamHelper 0.8.2 .

When trying to re-install Widevine CDM library, the process eventually hangs. The last messages in the Kodi log file are related to creating hard-links.
The file libwidevinecdm.so is actually copied to ~/.kodi/cdm, and my guess is that InputStreamHelper hangs when trying to load it.
When I try:

ldd libwidevinecdm.so

I get:

/libwidevinecdm.so: error while loading shared libraries: ./libwidevinecdm.so: DT_RELR without GLIBC_ABI_DT_RELR dependency

Out of curiosity, since v0.8.2 got out yesterday, I tried downgrading to v0.8.1. This time, InputStreamHelper claims the installation was successful, despite the above error message can be found in the log. Trying ldd libwidevinecdm.so gives the same error as with v0.8.2.

InputStream Helper Information tells me:

InputStreamAdaptive is at version 21.5.15.3
Widevine CDM is at version 4.10.2662.3 [...] it was extracted from Chrome OS image DAMU.* with version 16371.49.0 .

In the end, I managed to extract a good libwidevinecdm.so for my system following the script from : https://github.com/AsahiLinux/widevine-installer .
The library was extracted from the file commondatastorage.googleapis.com/chromeos-localmirror/distfiles/chromeos-lacros-arm64-squash-zstd-120.0.6098.0

Sorry for not giving full logs, but I didn't keep them and I have a working widevine now...

Where did you get your LibreELEC version? glibc should be patched for this:

InputStreamHelper will not patch the libwidevinecdm.so ARM64 binary provided by Google. Your operating system should accept this binary with a patched glibc.

More precisely : "64-bit capable ARM SoC devices including Raspberry Pi 4/5 have switched from ‘arm’ to ‘aarch64’ userspace. Manual update in LibreELEC settings will not list LibreELEC 12.2 releases as there are no arm images (only aarch64). You can manually update by placing a LibreELEC 12 release file (.tar or .img.gz) in /storage/.update and rebooting."

Which is what I did, from https://libreelec.tv/downloads/raspberry/ I downloaded https://releases.libreelec.tv/LibreELEC-RPi4.aarch64-12.2.0.img.gz

I must admit I didn't see the remark "If using Widevine to access DRM protected streaming services (Prime, Netflix, etc.) the Widevine CDN folder in /storage/.kodi/cdm must be deleted first as the existing arm libraries do not work on aarch64 systems. On first use after deletion new aarch64 Widevine libraries will be downloaded and installed." at first, but then would it have changed something? I mean I updated Widevine with InputStream Helper afterwards.

Should the issue be raised to the LibreElec team then?

Yes, you should definitely report the GLIBC_ABI_DT_RELR dependency problem to LibreELEC team. They need to make sure the glibc library in LibreELEC accepts the libwidevinecdm.so provided by Google.

I can also confirm here that something has changed with the latest versions of the Inputstreamhelper. I also have an RPi 4 with LibreELEC 12.2 which, since version LibreELEC 12.0 (May 2024), switched from ‘arm’ to ‘aarch64’. This was always displayed as aarch64 in the Inputstreamhelper and the download and installation of Widevine worked smoothly. Since one of the 0.8.x versions, 'arm' is displayed here in the Inputstreamhelper, the installation is carried out, but then stops towards the end and is not completed.

This was previously also extracted from limozeen and not from Chrome OS image DAMU.*

DAMU and LIMOZEEN provide the exact same Widevine CDM now. Version 4.10.2662.3, 64-bit aarch64 binary

Is libwidevine.so extracted and copied to the .kodi/cdm directory? Yes? Then InputStreamHelper did its job.
You can check if it is a aarch64 binary with:

file libwidevinecdm.so

The GLIBC_ABI_DT_RELR dependency problem should be fixed in glibc in the operating system. InputStreamHelper will not tamper with binaries provided by Google.

I can't reproduce this problem as I have no RPi hardware. You should also make sure you are running a 64-bit Linux kernel!

I think, exactly that is the problem in the last versions.

"file" seems to not exist in LibreELEC.

I have checked all backups, in all six folders there was a libwidevinecdm.so with the MD5 value libwidevinecdm.so 11df807b231407c36099a043b0f9f141, which is also present in .kodi/cdm.

11df807b231407c36099a043b0f9f141 md5sum is right. The most recent aarch64 libwidevinecdm.so version 4.10.2662.3 is in .kodi/cdm.
Extraction was successful, it's just the GUI is hanging while extraction was completed.

So, as I said before, I need a full debug log to investigate this problem.

I'm running an LE13 nightly on an RPi5 not LE12.2 on RPi4 but the codebase is essentially the same and current versions of widevine.helper are working fine with the viwx add-on (updated today* as I haven't used it in a week or two). The glibc patch LibreELEC uses ensures that libwidevine can be dlopen'ed by Kodi, but ldd does something different and you will always see that error thrown.

NB: the update did 'hang' with some kind of failure to remove old versions; this was in the kodi.log:

I was unable to cancel or esc/go-back in the Kodi UI when this happend so restarted Kodi. On restart all is working fine.

The ldd error is perfectly normal, inputstreamhelper shouldn't check with ldd on ARM linux. #625 drops that check
