What
The auto-generated release notes download table lists filenames without the v prefix, but the actual release assets are named with it:
| In release notes (v0.14.3) |
Actual asset |
uteke-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu-0.14.3.tar.gz |
uteke-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu-v0.14.3.tar.gz |
Users who copy-paste the filename from the notes get a 404.
Root cause
scripts/release-notes-template.md (L14-18) uses __VER__ placeholders in filenames, and .github/workflows/release.yml (L434) substitutes with the stripped version:
sed "s/__VER__/${VER#v}/g" scripts/release-notes-template.md
`` drops the v, so all five filenames in the table lose the prefix while the built artifacts keep it.
Fix
Either:
- Template filenames become
...-v__VER__.tar.gz (keeps sed as-is), or
- sed keeps the prefix for filename lines (distinct placeholder for filenames).
Option 1 is simpler.
Live impact
The published v0.14.3 notes carry the wrong filenames right now. After fixing the template, gh release edit v0.14.3 --notes-file <regenerated> can patch the live notes without a re-release.
Found during post-release validation of v0.14.3.
