Docs only. One sentence in Run 8 of the multilingual log was wrong, and the phonemizer session caught it.

I wrote that the protection against a cold-init regression was the pin bump "plus whatever they gate before tagging". There is no tagging — they don't cut releases. So it's really whatever they gate before we choose to bump, and what protects this repo is the bump being deliberate.

That's a weaker guarantee than the phrasing implied, and the distinction is the whole point: nothing upstream fires on a schedule we don't control, so a regression reaches us only if we pull it.

Also records the option they surfaced — trace-cold takes a goldens directory and exits non-zero, so it runs against our submodule checkout without depending on their suite. Verified from the repo root before documenting it:

dotnet run --project external/vernacula-phonemizer/csharp/tools/trace-cold -c Release -- \
    external/vernacula-phonemizer/csharp/goldens
  traced 189 of 189 languages
no poisons, every traced language carries input spans exit=0

~13 s, its own process, 189 languages. Not wired into anything — that's a call for @christopherthompson81, not something to slip into a docs PR. Recorded so the cost is known rather than guessed.

No code change, so the only check that matters is that nothing else referenced the old claim: grep finds it in this one line, and the WordSegmentation comment never made a tagging claim.

Run 8 said the protection was the pin bump "plus whatever they gate before
tagging". The phonemizer session read it and corrected me: there is no tagging,
they don't cut releases. So it is really whatever they gate before WE choose to
bump, and the protection is the bump being deliberate.

Weaker than the phrasing implied, and the distinction is the point: nothing
upstream fires on a schedule we don't control, so a regression reaches us only
if we pull it.

Also records the shape they offered -- trace-cold takes a goldens directory and
exits non-zero, so it runs against the submodule checkout without depending on
their suite. Verified from the repo root before documenting it:

  dotnet run --project external/vernacula-phonemizer/csharp/tools/trace-cold \
      -c Release -- external/vernacula-phonemizer/csharp/goldens
  traced 189 of 189 languages
no poisons, every traced language carries input spans exit=0

~13s, its own process. Not wired into anything -- recorded because it is the one
gate this repo could own, with a measured cost rather than a guessed one.
