Returns an error message whenever 'Copy' buttons are pressed or does nothing whatsoever

Hi,

I am running the latest version (2025.3.0.0)(X64) under Windows 10 Pro ESU [10.0.19045 N/A Build 19045]

Whenever I click the 'Copy' button in the bottom right, the program fails to copy anything to the clipboard and returns the following error:

This happens with both the copy button for single characters and the one for multiple characters.

Somewhat ironically, I also cannot copy that error message text in order to include it here, whether using the 'Copy error to clipboard and open GitHub' link nor by selecting the text and trying to copy it manually. So I've had to stitch three screenshots together instead.

Right-clicking an individual character entry in the grid and choosing 'Copy as text' doesn't cause any errors, but it also doesn't seem to actually copy anything to the clipboard either. The same also happens with the various 'Copy as image' methods as well.

I can at least select and right-click on character(s) in the text area where multiple characters are stored and successfully cut/copy/paste the contents of that area.

I've tested this across several random fonts and characters and it seems to occur consistently.

Unfortunately I have no good way of handling this. OLE Clipboard initialization is usually caused by something else on your system having an open handle to the clipboard that it hasn't closed properly; but as I don't have any application installed to replicate this I have no idea how to tackle it.

Will have to stay open until someone else can reproduce and fix.

@JohnnyWestlake, OK sure no problem. I do use Ditto (clipboard manager) which sounds like a prime candidate for doing that, but even after killing the process (and running echo off | clip which empties the clipboard and according to a Google search can apparently force-release the handle) the problem still persists at my end.

EDIT: Although Google AI also suggests:

"No, Ditto does not keep a continuous, open handle to the Windows clipboard. Like most standard clipboard managers, it registers as a clipboard viewer or hooks into clipboard change notifications, opening the clipboard briefly only when a new copy event occurs to read the data, or when pasting an item back into the system".

I also use a password manager that clears the clipboard a set timeout after copying passwords to it, would that potentially be a program that could be the culprit?
