Square UI

[guguss-31]

Hello, I really like this application but there is a problem with the user interface:

Before updating, the symbol selector was rounded:

Then he was square:

Can you do something?

I opened this issue a month ago and i don't have answer . Can you answer my question ?

It appears to be an intentional design choice.

Character-Map-UWP/CharacterMap/CharacterMap/App.xaml.cs

Line 26 in 99d1b16

this.FocusVisualKind = FocusVisualKind.Reveal;

I would remove it, at least with the Windows 11 theme.

It is intentional for perf reasons, there are a large number of people who use this on old laptops and, unfortunately, corners actually affect scrolling performance notably when you get to the low end

[guguss-31]

But can you add a setting for recent laptop that add rounded corner ?

Really? I would've guess that the light effects were heavier than the corner rounding effects. Thanks, good to know.

The Reveal focus highlight exists outside of the XAML layer as a single reused cached composition element, so it's a lot more performance friendly on both CPU and memory usage.

It is a pain to work with it though. I'm trying to fix some issues with it on another project, and it's not fun to work with it.
Apparently it's not great on Xbox, which is where it's being used 😢.
