Faster first paint, resilient scripts, corrected citations, reorganised docs - #117

…time TOC - Hero covers are an <img> with 960/1280/1920px candidates and a per-page sizes (script/cover-variants.sh writes the copies; a test fails without them). The CSS background offered one size and was found only after the stylesheet. - Google Fonts no longer blocks the first paint (media=print swap), and the unused serif 400 weights are gone (-20% font CSS). - GLightbox and simple-jekyll-search load async and are used once they (and the lightbox CSS) have loaded: a hung CDN froze every script on the page. - search.json is fetched when the search box is first used, with loading and failure messages; a query typed earlier still runs. - The table of contents is rendered at build time (_plugins/post_toc.rb): built by JS after first paint, it pushed the article down. - Forced-colors fixes for MathJax's stretched brackets and the logo; theme changes follow across tabs; x-default hreflang points at the English twin. - Weekly external link check (.github/workflows/external-links.yml). Mobile Lighthouse on a local build: home 80 -> 100, Gemma 3 76 -> 92.
Generated paper reviews linked many citations to the wrong arXiv paper (one Gemini 1.5 id reused for a dozen benchmarks, JAX linked to a vehicle-network paper, two ids that cannot exist). Each was checked against the source paper's bibliography and replaced; dead external links point at their new location or an archive snapshot.
…cture The READMEs and docs/tech-doc.md overlapped and had drifted from the code (ordering by date:, stub noindex, the feed). The READMEs now hold the overview, quick start and a doc map; the detail is in three English docs. The category diagram labels the slug correctly.

Why
Adversarial review rounds R23–R25 covered UX and accessibility (E2E plus edge cases), code and infra hygiene, SEO (Lighthouse and Search Console), and the docs.
Majors found and fixed:
Changes
Performance and UX (b81c970)
<img srcset>with 960/1280/1920 candidates and per-pagesizes,fetchpriority=high, decorative (alt="",aria-hidden), hidden in print.script/cover-variants.shwrites the copies.test_every_cover_has_its_phone_and_tablet_copiesfails when one is missing or when the original is not 1920px wide.media="print"swap, plus<noscript>), and the serif 400 weights are dropped (font CSS 117 → 93 KB gz).main.js: theme, menu and copy buttons were dead. A hung unpkg left search silent.search.json(about 1 MB gz) is fetched on first use of the search box, with loading and failure status. A query typed earlier still runs._plugins/post_toc.rbfilter, with tests, replaces the JS-built TOC. That removes a layout shift after first paint and gives no-JS readers a TOC.x-defaulthreflang now points at the English twin, since most search clicks come from English queries.external-links.ymlruns htmlproofer with external checks; it notifies on failure and blocks nothing.Lighthouse mobile on local builds, before → after:
Citation and dead-link fixes (33f73a7). These are hand fixes to generated posts, listed per post. Each old target was checked against the source paper's arXiv HTML bibliography, and every new arXiv id against the arXiv API. An independent reviewer spot-checked 47 ids and about 25 against the bibliographies.
