For a tool whose shape the hook doesn't know, it falls back to `additionalContext` — a note injected after the tool result. The two differ in realism: embedding is untrusted *data* the model tends to scrutinise; `additionalContext` reads as authoritative context the model is likelier to obey. Both are useful vectors.

### Targeting built-in tools

Targeting is keyed by the exact tool name, so the data-returning built-ins embed organically out of the box (verified against Claude Code 2.1.x `tool_response` shapes):

| Tool | content field | how |
|---|---|---|
| `Read` | `file.content` (nested string) | explicit shape map |
| `Bash` | `stdout` (top-level string) | generic fallback |
| `WebFetch` | `result` (top-level string) | generic fallback |
| `WebSearch` | `results` (list of strings) | explicit shape map (rides the last result) |
| MCP `mcp__<server>__<tool>` | JSON string | parsed, embedded, re-serialised |

Any other tool whose result exposes a top-level string (`stdout`/`content`/`output`/`result`/`text`) also embeds via the generic fallback; anything else degrades to the `additionalContext` note.

## Where targeting lives (prototype)

Which tool gets which payload is read from the evaluation environment, by convention:
