home redesign #76

Description

@ueen

the home screen looks a but cluttered and the removable collection screams feature creep. the home should have a good UI/UX and be useful for new and power users so imho you have to make decisions on how to direct the workflow. heres what i think would be best: display the top 5 most used favourite recipes on top (sometimes I brew one cup, sometimes half a liter and if it gets hot an iced v60 so it's nice too have a few favourites/most brewed directly on home). maybe even remove the favourite concept and just use the statistics and then have a most recently brewed button.
than have a second section that only has, create recepy or try new recipe by brewing method or try new recipe by collections so it would look like this:

V60 hofmann
V60 one cup
Alexander Mills Iced
More recently brewed

  • create recipe

try new recipe by brewing method
try new recipe by collections

to make it more interesting you could make the last section also tiles or a horizontal scrollable thing (like the collection, same thing for the brewing methods with bigger tiles)

i think this could make the home screen more useful for setteled users (they easily select their most used recipies) and new users, that can easly browse new recipies.

most importantly i would recommand not to make the home customizable too much, either you add collections or not, either you let users browse by device or something else. making home customizable creates future dev debt and invites feature creep. you should design a good UI/UX that we as users can grow accustomed to and enjoy :)

PS: otherwise awesome app, i use it almost daily now and would be so happy if you take my suggestions, even if they just make you think about a focused UI/UX. also awesome that its FOSS!!!
