Problem / Feature

On Dart 3.13+ with the latest webdev (4.x), running webdev_proxy serve fails with:

This command is only compatible with `webdev >=1.0.1 <4.0.0`, but you currently have webdev 4.0.3 active.

Solution

  • Widen webdevCompatibility version constraint in lib/src/webdev_proc_utils.dart to >=1.0.1 <5.0.0.
  • Add build_daemon: ^4.1.3 dev_dependency in pubspec.yaml to satisfy the client requirements of webdev 4.x.
  • Update the build complete detection in lib/src/serve_command.dart to match (Built|Failed to build) with build_runner so it detects Built with build_runner/aot output emitted by newer webdev.
  • Add SIGTERM signal handling in lib/src/serve_command.dart to ensure clean shutdown when stopped.
  • Update tests and documentation.

Areas of Impact

  • lib/src/webdev_proc_utils.dart
  • lib/src/serve_command.dart
  • pubspec.yaml
  • test/
  • README.md
  • CHANGELOG.md

Test Overview

  • Ran unit tests (dart test ...) – all passed.
  • Ran dart analyze – clean.
  • Ran dart format – clean.
  • Verified dart run bin/webdev_proxy.dart serve -- test:8080 successfully completes initial build with webdev 4.0.3.

- Allow webdev versions up to <5.0.0.
- Update build complete detection to match AOT builder output (Built with build_runner/aot).
- Add build_daemon >=4.1.3 <5.0.0 dev_dependency for webdev 4 client compatibility.
- Handle SIGTERM in serve command.
- Update tests and documentation.
