Editing becomes noticeably slower, and typing lags on long documents

What happened?

While working on a research note, typing beyond about 4,000 words (around 30,000 characters) has become noticeably slower and laggier. Overall performance feels worse than with shorter documents.

I was working on a MacBook Air M1 16GB

Steps to reproduce

1. Open the editor and create a new document
2. Type or paste Markdown content of about 4,000 words with dense content, including LaTex inline syntax, lists and other formatting.
3. Continue typing and working with the document

@jsynowiec We released a number of performance optimizations over the past week. Can you update to the latest version and see if that resolves it for you?

I tried importing my Obsidian vault and I have some rather large documents and the app hangs or is very sluggish when editing and previewing the file. The MD file I imported was 1.4MB and it has 127K words along with ~180 image attachments and hundreds of code blocks. If you can make this performant for large files I'm ready to switch from Obsidian.

@rrpolanco Oh that's good to know! Out of curiosity, wha's the scenario where you need a 127,000 word singular doc with 180 images?

(Trying to beef up our test scenarios, so just trying to make sure I understand the shape of what we're testing)

@Shpigford I keep a running log for each customer so that's why the files are so long.

@Shpigford with the 4,000-words file it's mostly OK now, but as the file grows, the performance drops. I'm now past 10,000 words and it's again becoming noticeable. 10k words is not that much. It's about 10 pages of text.
