Pain

Users navigating through the Rules V3 (TinaCMS) rule list experience inconsistent behavior when returning from an individual rule page. The current page selection and scroll position are sometimes lost, causing users to be returned to the first page or top of the list instead of their previous position. This issue occurs intermittently and negatively impacts browsing large rule categories such as "Rules to Better Use of AI".

Acceptance Criteria

  1. When a user navigates to a rule from the rule list and then returns, the previously selected pagination page is preserved.
  2. When a user navigates to a rule from the rule list and then returns, the previous scroll position in the list is preserved.
  3. The paging and scroll restoration behavior works consistently across repeated navigation attempts.
  4. The behavior works correctly when using browser back navigation.
  5. The behavior works correctly when navigating via in-app links.
  6. No regression is introduced to existing navigation or pagination functionality.

Reproduce Steps

  1. Open the Rules V3 (TinaCMS) website.
  2. Navigate to a category such as "Rules to Better Use of AI".
  3. Go to page 2 of the rule list.
  4. Open a rule from the list.
  5. Navigate back to the rule list using the browser back button or in-app navigation.
  6. Observe that the user is sometimes returned to page 1 instead of the previously selected page.
  7. Scroll down within the rule list and open another rule.
  8. Navigate back to the rule list.
  9. Observe that the scroll position is sometimes reset to the top of the page instead of the previous position.
