Conversation
The file had 50+ European registers plus AU/CA/UK/US but no mainland China entry. Adds the official GSXT register with its practical caveats, plus a free USCI check-digit validator. The entry said GSXT "refused every overseas node tested". Checking the underlying data: GSXT returns HTTP 403 on 21 of 24 observations, which is a response, not a refusal to connect, and three of the eight sources answer normally from abroad. Replaced with the measured figures. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01Qoe1AsSn5wD9hSjzW1ozGX

Correction to my own PR. The GSXT entry said "often unreachable from outside mainland China". Checking the underlying measurements, that is not accurate: GSXT returns HTTP 403 on 21 of 24 observations from 19 countries, and stays reachable at the network layer (TLS handshakes complete on 94% of 1,726 measurements). "Unreachable" points an investigator at the wrong problem - it is an application-layer refusal, not a connectivity failure. Worth adding for anyone using this list: three of the eight official Chinese sources we measured answer normally from abroad - the national standards portal, the wenshu judgement database (200 from 16 countries), and the trademark office. The blanket assumption that Chinese official sources are unreachable from outside is wrong, and for a fraud/KYC list that distinction is the useful part. Pushed a commit with the measured wording. |
The entries I added ran 2-10x the median length of the surrounding list, and one exceeded the longest existing entry. Measured figures moved to the linked pages; the entry now states the result and the limit, which is what the list format is for. Two rows in
docs/business-intel.md→ Registries and Filings, placed alphabetically between Canada and Companies House. The file currently has excellent European coverage — 50+ national registers — plus Australia, Canada, the UK and SEC EDGAR. There is no entry for mainland China, which is a noticeable gap for anyone doing supplier-side or fraud work.
1. China GSXT / NECIPS — the official register. Worth listing on its own merits, with the practical caveats stated in the entry rather than discovered later: Chinese-language only, a CAPTCHA on every query, and it frequently does not answer from outside mainland China. We measured eight official Chinese portals from public nodes in two independent rounds and GSXT answered none of the overseas nodes tested, so that last point is measured rather than anecdotal.
2. China USCI Checker — the 18-character Unified Social Credit Identifier carries a check digit under GB 32100-2015, so a mistyped or fabricated code is catchable arithmetically with no lookup. Given how expensive a GSXT query is in practice, checking the code is well-formed first is a useful step. Browser-side, no account, no registry call. It does not prove the company exists or is active.
The first entry is the one that matters for your readers; the second is mine, which I am flagging rather than slipping in.
Disclosure: I run the site behind entry 2. It is free with no signup; the site also sells verification reports. If you would prefer to take only the GSXT row, that is genuinely fine — the gap is worth filling either way.
