Description

This PR updates the Janssen documentation to improve alignment with OAuth 2.1 specifications.

The documentation changes aim to provide clearer guidance on recommended OAuth flows, security requirements, and updated protocol behavior.

Target issue

closes #15340

Implementation Details

Test and Document the changes

  • Static code analysis has been run locally and issues have been fixed
  • Relevant unit and integration tests have been added/updated
  • Relevant documentation has been updated if any (i.e. user guides, installation and configuration guides, technical design docs etc)

Please check the below before submitting your PR. The PR will not be merged if there are no commits that start with docs: to indicate documentation changes or if the below checklist is not selected.

  • I confirm that there is no impact on the docs due to the code changes in this PR.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated OAuth and OpenID Connect guidance to recommend Authorization Code with PKCE using S256, including clearer authorization, code exchange, client configuration, and mobile-app examples.
    • Clarified that Implicit and Password grants are legacy options excluded from default supported grants, and that Hybrid flows are not recommended for new integrations.
    • Documented Bearer-header requirements for Userinfo and client information, and clarified token introspection examples, including GET compatibility risks.
    • Expanded guidance for device authorization, client credentials, mTLS, native SSO, JWT grants, and exact redirect URIs.
    • Clarified issuer identification defaults, public-client refresh-token replacement, and the 600-second maximum authorization-code lifetime.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is on-topic and includes the preparation steps, target issue, change summary, and implementation scope. The implementation details and validation checklists are left blank or unchecked, but the description is mostly complete for a documentation-only change.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #15340 asks for a review and update of Janssen documentation to align with the OAuth 2.1 specification. This is a documentation task. The issue defines no acceptance criteria, no code change, and no automated-test requirement, so no coding requirements apply. The whole-PR summary shows documentation updates that address the issue goal. The authorization, token, PKCE, implicit, ROPC, refresh-token, UserInfo, issuer, JWT grant, and client-credentials pages now recommend Authorization Code with PKCE (S256). They label Implicit and ROPC as legacy and outside default grant types. Source-code accuracy of the documented server behavior was not verified in this review. That gap does not change the scope verdict.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

All changed files in the whole-PR summary are under docs/. No source, test, or configuration files appear in the summary, and ignored_files is empty. Each page changed relates to OAuth 2.1 alignment or documents a flow or endpoint affected by that alignment. Examples include the authorizationCodeLifetime default and cap in janssenauthserver-properties.md, the ROPC benchmark and script-catalog pages that label the legacy grant, and the mtls, jarm, and PKCE pages that update PKCE and response-type guidance. Minor edits, such as the label rename in prompt-parameter.md and the empty trailing hunk, do not change behavior and fall within the documentation update. No unrelated change was identified. The incremental changes since the previous reviewed head were not inspected separately. This assessment relies on the whole-PR summary.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

No eligible functions found in the changed files. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 0 functions across 0 files. (7 skipped: 7 unsupported.)

State the default PKCE requirement explicitly.

This page says clients “should use” PKCE, although Janssen requires PKCE by default. The example and explanation show PKCE, but readers can interpret the wording as optional and omit it. State the default and link to the configuration property.

validating the issuer in every authorization response without requiring a plain
iss parameter for JARM. In the metadata description and validation steps,
require the redirect iss parameter for non-JARM responses and the JWT iss claim
for JARM responses; compare the applicable value with the expected issuer and
reject absent or mismatched values.
