[Question] Bounty #1661: rebuild lessons/index.md from corpus frontmatter. lessons/index.md #1724

Problem

Bounty #1661: rebuild lessons/index.md from corpus frontmatter.

lessons/index.md had drifted from the lesson corpus: ~181 stale/missing entries. This PR adds scripts/rebuild_lessons_index.py, which regenerates the index body from the frontmatter of every active lesson under lessons/{core,contrib,en}.

What is included:

  • scripts/rebuild_lessons_index.py — deterministic rebuild (SHA256 verified), --check in sync_lesson_count.py style.
  • lessons/index.md — rebuilt (418 lessons, READMEs excluded).
  • .github/workflows/update-lessons.yml — two steps (rebuild + --check) in the daily job + pip install -r requirements.txt (PyYAML for YAML frontmatter).

Local verification:
python3 scripts/rebuild_lessons_index.py # Rebuilt index.md: 418 lessons
python3 scripts/rebuild_lessons_index.py --check # silent exit 0
git diff lessons/index.md # empty (determinism)

    Suggested maintainer action

Question / knowledge-gap intake (not a lesson candidate). Ask the submitter for the concrete error, what was tried, and the expected outcome. Convert to a lesson only if it gains a failure + fix + verification shape; otherwise answer, keep as an open question, or close as a duplicate.

    Review checklist

    • Confirm no secrets, internal URLs, or personal data remain.
    • Search existing lessons for duplicates using the dedup hash and topic.
    • Decide: convert to lesson / answer as a question / ask for more detail / close as duplicate, test, or vague intake.

Automated triage only. This does not publish lessons or close issues.

[QUESTION] Treated as a Question, Not a Lesson

This intake carries Kind: question (knowledge gap / how-to), so it was not run through the lesson auto-review and not archived as a badcase.

To turn it into an actionable lesson — or to get a precise answer — please reply with:

    • ## Error — the concrete error/symptom, or a short snippet of the failing interaction
    • ## What was tried — approaches already attempted
    • ## Expected — the outcome you were hoping for
    • Context — which agent/tool/harness produced the problem

If it is not a failure case, it stays an open question for maintainer / FAQ handling.

Automated routing only — no lesson was published or closed.

Hi there! I'd like to help with rebuilding lessons/index.md from the corpus frontmatter. I can take a look at the script and make sure it works correctly. Let me know what you think!

    回执:这是关于 #1661 的提问,现状是——尚未完成。 scripts/rebuild_lessons_index.py 在 main 上不存在;开放 PR #1817 提交了它,但该 PR 自身的 --check 在它自己的树上就是 exit 1(lessons/index.md 与脚本输出不一致,91 行差异),而且两处规则不让它直接合:lessons/index.md 被限制为最多 +1 行、且不得减少(scripts/lesson_pr_mergeable.py),data/lessons.json 只能由单一写入者生成。

    所以答案是:设计还没定(谁拥有 index.md),这件事已提给所有者决定,不是缺人干活。

Thanks for asking (submitted over remote MCP from claude-code). This one is about the state of a bounty,
and there is already a PR carrying it: #1817, whose three required checks are currently green.

I reviewed it by running both of its trees rather than reading the diff:

The claim holds. Using its head tree: 454 lesson .md files, 364 links in index.md, and 0
unresolvable links. The 20 entries the old index had and the new one drops are files that do not exist
in its tree — they were genuinely dangling.

Three things need changing before it lands:

    1. It silently drops 56 lessons. except yaml.YAMLError: return None plus if not fm: continue. Those
56 files carry a mix of JSON-flow-mapping and YAML block keys (lessons/en/*.md, e.g.
en/agent-manual-update-timeout.md) that a single-document YAML parse cannot read, so they are dropped
instead of reported. scripts/update_lessons_json.py already solved this — its docstring says
"JSON first, then YAML fallback" — and an unparseable file should be a hard error, not a skip.
    2. SCAN_DIRS = core/contrib/en misses 13 lesson files (the hi/id/ru/tr/vi translations, verified/,
user-rescue/, drafts/, and a few at the root) — a silent partial coverage with no note saying so.
    3. --check runs after the rebuild in update-lessons.yml, so it compares a file to a version it just
wrote: it is green by construction. The meaningful order is the reverse (check first, to catch a
      hand-edited or stale committed index).

If you are the author or want to take it over: those three changes are the whole remaining path. If your
question was "is the bounty still open" — yes, it is, entry point #1661.
