Fix client reconnect lifecycle handling - #140
Conversation
Port the AlexStocks/getty issue apache#121 fixes from the local master branch to transport/client.go: - connect() is now a single-shot attempt returning bool. The previous unbounded for loop re-dialed at full speed whenever the newSession callback kept failing, without backoff and without counting against maxReconnectAttempts (defect 2). - The reconnect attributes sessionClientKey/ignoreReconnectKey are set before run(), so a connection that dies right after run() still has them and session.stop() no longer silently skips the reconnect (defect 3). The ssMap == nil branch now removes the attributes (like client.stop()) and closes the already-started session instead of leaking it (defect 1). - reConnect() resets the attempt counter after a successful connect and only counts and backs off on failure, matching the master branch. Adds TestTCPClientSetsReconnectAttributesBeforeRun, which probes the attributes from OnOpen (invoked synchronously inside run()) and fails without the fix.

connect() runs the session (ss.(*session).run()) before registering it in ssMap. session.run() invokes OnOpen synchronously, so an OnOpen that calls session.Close() - or returns an error, which makes run() close the session - shuts the session down while connect() is still on the stack. Because the reconnect attributes are set before run() (issue apache#121 defect 3 fix), that stop() immediately triggers a client-side reconnect pass, yet connect() went on to insert the already-closed session into ssMap unconditionally and reported success. A dead ssMap entry corrupts the pool accounting both ways: - A refill pass that sees the closed entry counts it as a pool slot and stops, so the pool stays short permanently. - A pass that first observed the empty pool dials a replacement while the original connect() inserts the dead session behind it, pushing the pool past WithConnectionNumber; the extra sessions are live and never leave, and the dead insert also resets the reconnect attempt budget without adding a usable slot. connect() now re-checks ss.IsClosed() under the client lock before adding the session: a session closed during run() is dropped from the pool, its reconnect attributes are removed (the reconnect pass it already triggered refills the pool), and the attempt returns false so reConnect() counts and backs it off instead of resetting the budget. Adds TestTCPClientOnOpenCloseKeepsPoolAtConfiguredSize: an OnOpen that synchronously closes a burst of sessions races the reconnect passes it spawns against connect(); the pool must settle at exactly WithConnectionNumber live sessions and never hold a closed one. The test fails on the old code (pool never stabilizes at the configured size).
Port the master-branch reconnect fixes (6932852 'Fix reconnect single-flight behavior', 1994e7c 'fix: avoid client close reconnect deadlock') to transport/client.go, addressing the CodeRabbit review on the reconnect lifecycle PR: - runReconnect() now keeps at most one reconnect loop: reconnectDone/ reconnectPending (under the client lock) record the active worker and coalesce further triggers into it. Concurrent session deaths can no longer spawn parallel loops that both pass sessionNum() and over-fill the pool past WithConnectionNumber. - Close() no longer waits on the worker WaitGroup: the loop exits on its own once it observes c.done. This stops Close from blocking behind a dial timeout, and from deadlocking when Close is invoked from NewSessionCallback inside a reconnect pass. Tests are ported from master: single-flight sharing, coalescing of session-triggered and backoff reconnects, runReconnect no-op after Close, Close not blocking on a live reconnect pass, and Close from NewSessionCallback without deadlock. TestSessionReconnectIsTrackedByClose (which asserted the old wait-for-worker contract) is removed, and the OnOpen-close pool regression test is retuned for the now-serialized refill backoff.

Address CodeRabbit review on PR apache#140: - TestReconnectTriggerDuringBackoffIsCoalesced: keep the reconnect interval far above the 50ms assertion window so CI scheduling delay cannot start attempt 2 inside the window; Close() cancels the backoff so the test stays fast. - TestTCPClientOnOpenCloseKeepsPoolAtConfiguredSize: inspect ssMap before calling sessionNum(), which prunes closed sessions and would otherwise hide them from the closed-session count.
