4774 🐨 Progress Update

We're looking to get our 2026 robot running on Systemcore at an offseason event in a few months time. Our WIP code can/will be found at https://github.com/thedropbears/pyrebuilt/tree/2027.

A few obstacles we've encountered so far:

• There are no versions of ChoreoLib or PhotonLib that support this year's Choreo or PhotonVision compatible with 2027. I presume this is the lack of updated Python libraries mentioned in 5113 Progress update #229.
  • I'd imagine with some work, given Python is a dynamic language, it'd be possible to create versions of these that support both 2026 and 2027.
  • At the same time I presume it won't be much work for there to be an updated release of Choreo?
• The phoenix6 alpha uses the deprecated pkg_resources which was removed in setuptools 82, so we have to explicitly pin setuptools 81 in our project.
• RobotPy 2027.0.0a2 only supports Python 3.13, not the Python 3.14 used on the roboRIO this year.
  • This isn't surprising given that alpha 2 was released before Python 3.14. Alpha 3 onwards supports Python 3.14 so this shouldn't be a problem when the later alphas are declared stable.
• There are some Phoenix 6 features that were apparently new in 2026 which we were relying on. We're assuming these will be brought forward in the near future.

When we were doing some light testing last year we managed to deploy some barebones code and run AdvantageScope Lite. No complaints about that process.
