What's the official termux app 🤔

[jimkardy]

Like everyone has recommended this github version or f droid, but how about play store one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.termux what's this, who made it, is it safe? And please don't close my issue again it's in the general discussion!

And i want an answer!

See #4000

[jimkardy]

Thanks, now i know, also is termux still mentained or its stopped at 0.119.0-beta.3 for good, (i hope not)?

The app itself is only a terminal emulator. The more important thing is maintaining the repo of packages, and it never stops.

[jimkardy]

Ph yeah obviously how dumb i am 🤦 the repo is where all the packages stay and get updated 😅 my apologies, also there's one question i asked on reddit but never get true answer.

Is containerisation possible? Like Docker or Podman?

Like when i ask about docker people keep saying you need root, some say you need root + custom karnel, some say karnelsu is enough, idk what or who to believe 😂 i just use udocker since it works but it doesn't have compose or high security 🤔 and the most important stuff it doesn't have -m flags or start stop, i have to like use the run + all the flags all the time wich makes it complex and a bit annoying 🤔.

So my question is this, what you really need to run podman at least?

[jimkardy]

This is my final question btw 😂

I documented and saved exactly what is necessary to have real Docker in completely clean Android 17 emulator here:

https://github.com/robertkirkman/kernelsu-goldfish-builder

Yes KernelSU is required, but yes, custom kernel configuration in addition to only KernelSU is also required.

i just use udocker since it works but it doesn't have compose or high security 🤔 and the most important stuff it doesn't have -m flags or start stop, i have to like use the run + all the flags all the time wich makes it complex and a bit annoying 🤔.

To get good security and compose, you can switch to proot-distro https://github.com/termux/proot-distro and pd-compose https://github.com/aleguacaran/pd-compose

So my question is this, what you really need to run podman at least?

I don't know about podman though

[jimkardy]

Nah, guys i made you this https://github.com/jimkardy/Fgji
Its compose but for udocker.
But first of all make sure you do :
apt update && apt upgrade && apt install udocker && udocker install

Then take my one Liner from here: https://github.com/jimkardy/Fgji
Then do stuff like:
. /ucompose up -d
And a lot more

[robertkirkman]

is it like pd-compose? https://github.com/aleguacaran/pd-compose

[jimkardy]

Yeah kinda, but that’s for proot-distro, mine is for udocker only. More specifically latest version of udocker.

Why bother doing this?
Since udocker is complex 😐 it doesn't even have a start stop, ucompose fixed that.

The only thing you need is a docker-compose.yml or a compose.yml the coding syntax is the same as docker, or you can ask a free Ai to code you one 😅

Also what do you guys think should i push this to termux pkg? If posibile of course 🤔.

[jimkardy]

Note, as mentioned on my repo, this is just a front-end to udocker so if something does not work, it means udocker can't do it 😂
