abstract: >-
msfc-ccd is a Python library for characterizing and using the CCD cameras
built by NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) for solar instruments
flown on sounding rockets, such as the EUV Snapshot Imaging Spectrograph
(ESIS). It reads the FITS files that the cameras produce, models the camera
and its Teledyne/e2v CCD230-42 sensor, and turns a raw readout into a
calibrated image by splitting it into the four taps of the sensor, removing
the bias measured from the blank columns, and converting to electrons. The
library also measures the properties of each tap from calibration
exposures: readout noise from sequences of darks, dark current from darks
of several exposure lengths, gain from the photon transfer of flats and
from Fe 55 X-ray events, and charge transfer efficiency from the extended
pixel edge response of flats and from Fe 55 events. It is built on
named-arrays, so images and sequences of images carry named axes and
physical units.
