Caching animated gif

Currently, animated GIFs are cached in the form of the first frame. Retrieving a gif from the cache using GetCachedImageFor(url) does not allow the animation to be played. Do you know if there is a plan to handle such a case? Alternatively, does anyone know how to work around this?
