Firmware driver to control solenoid + E-stop

I have an ATC spindle. I need to control various things, it's pretty straightforward.

For the air seal that protects the spindle. it's a bit more complicated to handle all cases. And I don't want it running when it does not have to be.

I was thinking of writing a firmware plugin that would enable the functionality I want.

1. ON as soon when steppers are energized.
2. Will idle after X minutes of no movement (steppers or spindle)
3. On E-Stop, will remain ON, possibly with a delay until turned off

Number 3 is what I'm not sure if it's possible during an E-stop condition.

Otherwise, controlling with my VFD PLC leaves some edge cases (movement before spindle is engaged).

If you code for it then it is possible. Subscribe to grbl.on_state_change and check for STATE_ESTOP (and STATE_ALARM?) and register a delayed task to turn off air. Delete the task on steppers energized.
