Mac OS freezes everytime I run Pinta #2194

Description

@venkatarangan

Description

Pinta had been working normally on my system for several months.

On 15 June 2026, I attempted to open an image generated by ChatGPT (attached to this issue). Since then, launching Pinta consistently causes the entire system to become unresponsive.

This happens whether I:

Launch Pinta directly from the Applications folder
Open the image file using Open With → Pinta

I suspect Pinta may be attempting to automatically reopen the previously opened image on startup, but I have not been able to confirm this.

Expected Behaviour

Pinta should launch normally, or display an error if the image file cannot be opened.

Actual Behaviour

Within a few seconds of launching Pinta:

The macOS Dock disappears
The display briefly flickers or shakes several times
The entire system becomes unresponsive
Keyboard and mouse input stop working
A normal restart is not possible; I have to force a power cycle using the power button
Steps to Reproduce
Launch Pinta
Observe that macOS becomes unresponsive

If relevant, the attached image file may be required to reproduce the issue.

Device: Mac mini (2024)
Processor: Apple M4
Memory: 16 GB
Operating System: macOS Tahoe 26.5.1
Pinta Version

I am unable to determine the installed Pinta version because the application no longer launches.

I also downloaded and installed the latest version available on 15 June 2026, and the same behaviour occurs.
