Distutils is dead, it should be setuptools. Probably should give the whole page a 🧹 while we are there

Hi! I recently submitted a small docs PR here and would like to take a look at this issue if that’s okay.

From a quick read, it seems the compiled extensions section still mentions distutils, which is deprecated. I can update the docs to recommend the modern alternatives (e.g. setuptools, pyproject.toml, or relevant PEP guidance).

I’ll start by checking the current text and propose a focused PR.
