spotatui has grown a lot this year, and v0.40 (released yesterday) is essentially spotatui 2.0: alongside Spotify with native streaming, it now plays local files, Subsonic servers, internet radio, and YouTube, on top of MPRIS, listening parties, theming, and more. I have no plans of slowing down, and with that comes a steady stream of issues and PRs.
So far the project has been maintained by one person (me), and it has reached the point where that is becoming the bottleneck. Rather than let response times slip, I'd like to bring on one or two co-maintainers.
What a co-maintainer would do
Not all of it, and not full time. Any subset of these helps:
- Issue triage: reproduce reports, ask for the right diagnostics, label, close duplicates
- PR review: first-pass reviews on incoming PRs, especially in areas you know well
- Bug fixes and features in the areas you care about
- macOS ownership: I develop on Linux and Windows but don't have a Mac, so someone who daily-drives macOS would be especially valuable for the platform-specific code (media keys, audio backends, Now Playing integration)
What I'm looking for
- You've contributed to spotatui before. This is the main requirement: I want to build on an existing track record of PRs, issue reports, or helping others in the tracker, not add someone I've never worked with
- You use spotatui daily. This one is important to me. I use it every day, and that's how I find bugs and know what's worth adding. A co-maintainer who lives in the app will catch things no amount of code review can
- Sustained involvement matters more to me than volume. A few hours a month, consistently, beats a big one-time burst
- Comfortable with Rust, or with one of the non-code areas above (triage alone is a huge help)
- Communicates openly: flags problems with their own changes, asks before big decisions
What you get
- Write access and a real say in the project's direction
- I'll stay actively involved. This is about sharing the work, not handing it off
